Campaign to Build the
Brooklyn Skate Garden
A Park for the Community
in Mount Prospect Park*
Support building the Brooklyn Skate Garden at Mount Prospect by signing our petition on Change.org.
The Brooklyn SkateGARDEN is an innovative new model for how skateparks can bring communities together. The BSG will add to Brooklyn’s rich culture and be a world class skatepark and all inclusive environment for skaters of all ages & skill levels, from kids to adults, beginners to pros, all genders, & all physical abilities. A hub for different cultures, communities & space for multigenerational connections that promote community & diversity, foster sustainable ‘green’ parks and gardens, & provide safe opportunities to skate, visit, & steward our public spaces.
The BSG model marries the physical & the philosophical: From providing skate ramps & safe play spaces to creating urban gardens that can provide great natural beauty, diverse populations will have myriad opportunities to connect with others, learn new skills, improve their local neighborhood and contribute to a stronger social fabric.
We believe in the ethos of sustainable design, incorporating multipurpose recreational activities within our shared public spaces. Our vision ideas include: having areas for skating, picnicking, viewing, community gardens, and spaces suitable for outdoor learning, including art making, writing & painting. Every detail of the SkateGARDENS design will be eco-conscious with the emphasis of sustainability and being green. Over time, arts, education & skate lessons and programming will be incorporated. We seek opportunities for collaboration with cultural organizations to make this happen.
Our location is at Mount Prospect Park in Central Brooklyn, accessible by major transit (subway, bus, CitiBike). With our neighbors; The Brooklyn Museum of Art, The Brooklyn Public Library, The Brooklyn Botanic Garden, Prospect Park and Grand Army Plaza.
The Brooklyn SkateGARDEN will be a special addition to Central Brooklyn. It will be a model for a growing nation of skaters, families and community-builders to come together. A gathering place that our community will be so proud to call their own and a new cultural landmark and experience in Brooklyn that will draw visitors & tourists from around the world.
This very special SkateGARDEN is inspired by the late Pablo Ramirez, whose legacy and artistic life inspired many children & young adults to develop their creativity in skateboarding, music & art. Honoring Pablo’s core principles: Do what you love. Dream. Live here and now. Uplift and grow & Plant seeds. The SkateGARDEN will inspire positivity, creativity, and love as keys to discovering & nurturing the true & unique passions that can bring beauty & meaning to each of our lives.
In January 2024, The Mayor's Office, The NYC Parks Department, The NYC Department of Economic Development Corporation, Brooklyn Borough President, Antonio Reynoso, CM D39 Shahana Hanif & CM D35 Crystal Hudson all supported and pledged funding almost $11.2M to make this project a reality at Mount Prospect Park.
